Full Moon Luck

Last Saturday was the last day for the Maryland shotgun season. Justin and I had made plans the night before to flip flop hunting and filming. Justin was up to bat for the morning hunt. We was suppose to meet at 5:15 am but Justin was running a few min behind. Around 5:30 Justin was pulling in to pick me up and we were on our way to a honey hole he has. After almost hitting about 10 deer in our short 15 min drive, we arrived safely at our morning destination. This spot has an excellent pinch point so Justin was going to take his bow along with his muzzle loader. After getting his bow ready to go he pulls out his Thompson Center and starts to load it. He first dumps the three pellets down the barrel and then follows it up with the sabot. Then there was a load snap. Looking at each other we soon realized that he had just broke his ram rod after only getting the sabot half way down the barrel. Needless to say there goes the muzzle loader. He grabs his bow and we are off to our set about 300 yards away. With a full moon there was no need for a flash light. We get to the stand and got every thing set up and it wasn't long before the sun was coming up. Around 8 we looked at each other in disbelief. We hadn't seen a single deer yet, this was very unusual for this spot. Then out of the corner of my eye I caught movement of a good buck. Getting the camera on him and starting to film him Justin says "I don't have my grunt call". I reached down grabbed mine and hit it. The buck stops, turns and runs from about 100 yards to 60 yards then to 40 yards. He slowly walks into 30 yards still not offering a shot. He starts to make his way off when he seen some does moving down the hill below him. Hitting the grunt call one more time in desperation didn't work either. The buck turns and walks down to the the does. Not 15 min later, BOOM, in the same direction they had walked in. After not seeing any more deer we rolled out, got breakfast and came up with a game plan for the evening.

We had decided to meet around 1 pm knowing that we needed to get to one of my spots as early as we could. On the way in we seen some deer and turkey already in the field. We slowly made our way to the blind step by step. After reaching the blind and only bumping the turkeys off the field we set up the camera gear and was ready for the evening hunt to unfold. Around 2:30 pm I caught movement of a good buck on the neighboring property. He had came out and checked just about every doe in the field. As quick as he appeared he disappeared. Now there was about 5 or 6 deer on our side of the property line. After several cars stopping on the road to look at the deer and the neighbors dog barking the deer on the neighboring property had had enough and cleared the field leaving the 5 or 6 deer on our property. With all of the commotion the deer were very nervous and spooky. Not 45 min after the field had cleared deer started to make their way back onto the cut corn field. After glassing a bunch of deer I noticed a big body standing 50 yards off our property line. The deer then picks his head up and all I can see is what looks like a nice buck, but I couldn't tell much about him. Telling Justin there was a good buck coming he gets the camera ready. The buck slowly walks into the field to eat and check out the does. We confirmed that the buck was at least a 4 1/2 yr old buck and was indeed a shooter. I slowly get Dons Thompson Center ready and out the window. YES I said Dons Thompson Center, Its a long story. The buck slowly walks out of the corner and I settle the cross hairs behind the shoulder and squeeze the trigger. The big 9 pointer runs 75 yards and stands there. At first I thought I had missed but when he jumped the fence I noticed a dark red spot behind his shoulder. The buck takes a few more steps and falls over. Justin and I celebrate, make a few phone calls and then finally head down to him. When we get down to him I realize who he is, I have a bunch of Moultire trail camera pics of him. He is a good old buck and one that I am extremely happy with. I would like to thank Justin for being there to video everything and Don for letting me use his gun. All in all it was a good evening and the deer were moving good, even with a FULL MOON.

Who needs a gun!

Well my season sure had started out slow. With work and home projects, I was only able to get out in the woods twice to hunt prior to our trip to Illinois in late October. Although we had a great time in Illinois, I left a little disappointed with the results. I had a solid 130-140 inch 8 point at 12 yards and was not able to seal the deal. Although I managed to land an arrow in him we were unable to make a recovery. Needless to say I was anxious to redeem myself and get back to hunt one of my favorite spots in Maryland. On the Friday before the opening day of gun season Mike and I hunted this farm and had a close encounter with a mature 8 point tending a doe at 70 yards. Later that day, Don and I returned to the same stand and watched the same buck in another field running a doe. Throughout the whole day we saw close to ten different bucks out cruising and watched one buck breed a doe about 150 yards from the stand. We new this farm was on fire and we had to get back in to hunt it. After filming Mike at one of his spots on opening day we decided to get back in this stand to try our luck again the following day. This stand is set on the inside corner of a pasture right up against the wood line. There is a section of fence that is missing that is exactly 30 yards from the stand where the deer love to cross. For this reason I decided to take my bow along with me too so that given the opportunity I could redeem myself. At around 7am I looked across the pasture and caught a glimpse of a deer walking up the fence row about 200 yards away. I pulled the binoculars up and saw that it was a mature buck and he was heading the opposite way from our stand. I looked down for my grunt call but it was buried in the bottom of my bag. I told Mike, quick hit your grunt call. With the first crack of his grunt call I realized why Don had named it the "fog horn". The buck stopped, looked our direction and then kept heading away towards the road. We did this three more times along with some doe bleats and each time the buck would stop and look then keep walking. Once the buck reached the top of the hill I said " hit it one more time". This time the buck stopped looked our direction and decided that he had enough. He turned and started heading on a B-line straight at us. As he closed the gap and i got a better look at the deer I confirmed that he was definitely a mature 7 pointer. Although I had the old Thompson Center in the tree with me, I decided that I would only take this deer with my bow if he came within range. After the long trek across the pasture, the buck jumped the fence and came down in to the woods looking for the action. He turned and crossed under the fence 30 yards from the stand. I drew the bow, looked back and got the nod from Mike that he was on him then stopped him at 28 yards broad side. The rest is history, the double lung shot made for a short tracking job to the 200lb+ deer. The deer did not have the biggest rack in the woods but was definitely a good management deer to take off the farm and keep up with or QDMA efforts. I'd like to thank Mike for his great calling and filming that day and helping me drag the "slundger" up out of the woods.

I got another bow kill for Abnaki Outdoors season 3

I got a chance to get out one more time before gun season and Mikey was gracious enough to invite me to one of his spots. He said that we should go back to the stand that he had shot a 10 point a week ago. He saw some good rut activity when he was on that property and the landowner had been seeing a good 8 point almost daily. Not having any properties to gun hunt I jumped on the oppurtunity to get one more crack at them with my bow. Mike said he would run the camera and to meet him at his house at 5:30.
I get to his house on time for once and we headed down the road. I have filmed him at this spot a few times and everytime in we usually run deer out so I was surprised, and a little concerned, when there was nothing in there this morning. We usually don't like running deer off when going to and from stands but this spot is right behind a barn and the deer are used to alot of human traffic and don't seem to mind it much. After getting set up and all settled in I asked Mike what has his trail cameras been getting and he tells me that he just pulled the one under the stand the night before and the deer activity is now kind of sporadic. Not bumping any deer on the way in and the trail camera news had me a little pesimistic about seeing any deer.
We didn't see the first deer until a half hour after sunrise and it was 4 does across the driveway and not looking like they were even thinking about coming our way. Then I caught a glimpse of a good buck working the woodline 100 yards from us heading away. I hit the grunt tube a couple times and threw a few bleats at him and he stops but eventually works his way off.
Over the next 2 hours we saw 2 more 1 1/2 old bucks and one bedded down 80 yards from us. Time seemed to be dragging so we decided to mess with the young buck to see if we could get him to come in. I grunted and bleated and he just stayed put. I had enough and was ready to leave but Mike wanted to see if he could get the buck to come in with his grunt tube, or should I say fog horn. Damn that thing was loud. All the buck did was just look our way. I turned around to start packing up and I noticed a deer trotting down the hill toward us. Then I see antlers gleaming in the sun. Looked like a good one for this area to me so I got my bow ready. Mike got the camera rolling on him and confirmed that it was a shooter. He came in looking for the source of the grunts and bleats. He got to a good shooting lane at 30 yards so I tried to stop him and he stops behind a small tree. A few steps later he had an arrow in him.
At the end of the best blood trail I have ever seen was a good 3 year old 8 and my second bow buck of the season. Not a giant but a good buck for the area and a 3 year old. Looks like I'm cameraman for the rest of bow season, minus a couple

1st time in equals success

The day started off with a lot of nervous energy as Don would call it. Don was suppose to meet me at my house at 515, needless to say he was late and around 525 I was blowing his phone up. I was so pumped up to get to the stand this morning I was pacing back and forth until I was able to get a hold of him. 530 finally came and I was jumping in his truck and we were off to one of our favorite stands we call the upper hill side set. The set sits on the top side of strip of woods that is only 80 yards wide and is situated between two major bedding areas, it is a perfect travel corridor. This set is perfect for any southerly wind or east wind, so with the winds out of the south we new we were golden for the morning hunt. With daylight approaching we finally were getting settled in our stands. Right off the bat there was a little chasing on the bottom side of hill but it was still to dark to see what they were. Then a few does worked there way from the top side of the hill towards the bottom about 75 yards away. I think at this time we looked at each other and new that it was going to be a good morning. This was the first time we had been in this set this year so we new the deer were not pressured at all. Over the past few years we have learned to stay off this hill side until we see some bucks chasing does. This patience was about the pay off and we had no clue. After the does worked away Don got my attention and there was more deer working towards us but this time they were in a cover crop field and about 100 yards away. The five deer single filed by us staying 100 yards out. Once the deer were out of sight I turned to Don and said "All we need is for a shooter to walk down this fence row scent checking this hill side and it will all be over with". At that time I was kind of joking thinking it would never happen that way because it would just be to easy. As soon as I said it I turned around and looked down the hill. Not 5 seconds later I turned back to Don and noticed a buck pick his head up only 40 yards out along the same fence I had mentioned just 15 seconds ago. I told Don "Shooter, shooter, shooter and I am not joking". At this time the deer had became a little alert, I don't know if he had heard me tell Don that he was there or if he just sensed something wasn't right. After a few nervous seconds the buck turned and crossed the fence. Knowing he was going to hit the ridge in the field and he would be out of range I decided to try and take him before he got there. He inched his way towards my opening and I asked Don if he was on him, not hearing him say yes I asked again. Once again not hearing him say yes or no, the buck finally hit my opening. Not being able to hear Don didn't have me worried at all. I knew he was on the buck because if wasn't he would have been saying NO loud enough for me to hear him. After hunting and filming together the past few years we have became confident enough in each others filming ability that at times in the heat of the moment we don't have to communicate. Sooner or later it will get us in trouble but it has been OK so far. As soon as he hit my opening I did the old mouth grunt and he threw his head up. Using an adjustable single pin I had already set it for where I thought he was going to walk which was 35 yards. I buried the pin right at his heart and squeezed the trigger off. Watching the Nockturnal lighted nock sail towards him I knew it was going to be close, then the buck started to drop. At the same time he dropped he had turned a little and I watched the Nockturnal nock disappear. The mature buck turned and jumped the fence and ran down the hill. Not hearing him crash I was a little worried but being able to see where the arrow had went in I thought it looked good. I did however have to ask Don just to make sure. After things settled down I ranged where he was standing to see if I was close because I knew he had dropped a little and I might have gotten lucky. When I hit the range finder it said 42 yards and I had the pin set for 35. I don't know if it was luck or I was just that good but I am banking on it being a lot of luck. Letting the buck set for about an hour we tracked him up. After a short track job we found him about 80 yards from the stand. He is a main frame 8 with an extra brow and a kicker coming off one of his brows. This is not a huge antlered buck but a big 4 1/2 year old and that is what we are after. All in all its a good buck and a great hunt as well as one of the fastest hunts I have ever been on. We were not on stand but 1 hr. and we got the job done. We are not sure at this time if we have any history with this buck, but will be going back and looking at trail photos and video to see if by any chance we do. I would like to give a big thanks to Don for being there this morning even after a long week at work.

Droptine 9

Tommy got permission to hunt this small property over the summer and we looked at it and didn't think to much of it. We were told that there was already 3 other guys hunting the property but the landowner said they just gun hunted it. We glassed the place once and then set up one of our Moultrie trail cameras. When we were leaving after setting up the camera we saw this buck for the first time across the street getting ready to cross the road. To say we were a little excited would be an understatement but we were still a little skeptical that we would ever see that deer while hunting. After the first card pull we were shocked. After a month we had hundreds of pictures of this buck and we had nailed down his pattern. We have never encountered a buck that had this strict of a pattern and lived in such a small home range. This buck stayed pretty much in a 50 acre area and did just about the same thing everyday. We had a encounters with him each of the 4 times we hunted him but he came in before camera light the first time and the second time a bar up the street had a band playing and the band started as he was staged up 10 yards behind us and he trotted off. The next time in we couldn't get to the stand because deer were already right under the stand. I snuck into 30 yards af the stand but Droptine 9hung up on the neighbors property and never came across. Then about 2 weeks ago, he started showing up on camera about an hour before sunrise and and hour after sunset. We then had the camera we were getting all the pics on stolen. While looking into it we found out that the other guys hunting this property did bowhunt and they bowhunted a good bit. We also found out that the neighboring property had a lot of tresspassing issues. The guys that were already on this property had been hunting it for years and they had seen this buck several times. We didn't want to step on their toes since they had been on this property for years but they were more than welcoming and told us to hunt where and when we wanted and they would work with us, unheard of now a days, most would shun us and try to keep us out.
The next time in the conditions were perfect. It had been in the high 70s low 80s then a front blew in with rain and temps in the 60s. The rain stopped about an hour before dark and the deer started moving. we had 2 litlle bucks come in and while I was caught sitting down I was able to get my bow and I could hear deer behind us but Tommy wasn't saying anything so I didn't think much of it. He then tapped on the tree and I looked down to see Droptine 9 at the base of the tree. Well 30 seconds later I had my oppurtunity, he crossed the creek and turned to the left giving me a 10 yard shot. I just arrowed my best buck to date and Tommy got it all on film and it's some of the best footage I have seen. A short 80 yard track job and we had him. I'd like to thank Tommy for getting us on this property and letting me hunt hunt him. Once we saw this deer and patterned him, Tommy said after the year I had last year that he wanted me to kill this one, THANKS MAN!

We had high hopes for this evening

Last Saturday Stapes and I were trying to get on this buck and we were on him but he was on us before camera light. After another card pull Friday that was full of daylight pics of the droptine 9, we were more than pumped up to get in our stand tonight. This buck has given us hundreds of pics and alot of daylight pics. The last pull has shown that he isn't coming thru in the morning during shooting light anymore we decided to get on him in the evening. Just about every night he's coming thru around 7:00-7:30. Today proved no different. He showed himself about 300 yards away on the neighboring property around 5:30. He pretty much came straight to us. He jumped the fence and was 10 yards behind us by 6:15. Every deer that comes down thru here always hangs up on the other side of a little creek just staging up and checking the area out before crossing and coming out into the field. Well he was calm as could be even with the property owners dog barking his head off and I figured it was just a matter of a few minutes until I was given a good shot on our side of the creek so I was going to be patient and just wait until he crossed the creek. MISTAKE! Should've shot him behind us. There's a bar a 1/4 mile up the road and they fired up a live band that was LOUD. As soon as he heard that he trotted off and headed back to the neighbors. Unbeliveable! Well that's twice we have been in this stand and twice we had him at 10 yards! This deer is going to make it on Chasing Whitetails Season 3 hopefully on the next time in.

What a night

The day started off a little wet. But with all of the rain I was able to get out of work early and pull some card out of our Moultrie cameras. Like usual the big drop tine buck that Don has been trying to get on was in his normal routine. With high hopes for Saturday we just couldnt sit at home, so Don and I headed out. There has been a ton of deer on one of our properties and we new we had to be in there. So we came up with a game plan, we had noticed that the deer had really been using this back corner of a cut corn field. With no stand in place we headed in with Dons Double Bull Blind in hand. As soon as we peaked over the knoll in the field there was five deer already in the field. Bumbing the deer was our only option. Once we got the blind set up, camera mounted on the tripod, arrow nocked, Don and I looked at each other and said this is never going to work. Little did we know it was going to work perfectly. Around 645 a doe peaked out of the bushes and started to enter the field. She walked right into my shooting lane around 35 yards and I heard Don say I am on her. I settled the bin and squeezed the trigger on my release. The arrow hit its mark. Watching the Nockturnal Nock all the way we could tell that she was not going to go far with that kind of shot. We decided to stay to see what else came out. Around 15 min later we had two fawns and a nice 2 1/2 yr old stud was right out infront of us. Then just before dark we had 4 more deer come out into the cut corn field. After dark we recovered my doe. She had only went about 80 yards from were she was shot. We had a total of around 7-8 deer walk with in 35 yards of our blind and not a single one of them noticed the blind. This is the first time that we have been able to hunt out of a blind that we had just poped up and get away with it. All in all it was a great night. We got some great footage for our season 3 dvd and now we getting ready for tomorrow.

Looking like Season 3 might be huge.

Got a few more pics of some GOOD bucks. I wish all of our card pulls had a few like these. Season 3 is looking real good right now, all we have to do is hunt smart.

Ky Opener

Well we didn't get in the Tree for the Ky opener this past weekend because it was 100 degrees. But I have staffer Corey Staples (Stapes) flying in this Thursday (Sept 8th) to run the cam for me,the temps have dropped dramatically and I think we should see some good deer movement, been getting some shooters on the Moultrie cams. Will keep you posted.

Muddy harness is in

Just got my new Muddy Outdoors saftey harness in yesterday. I pulled it out of the package and tried it on. It fit perfectly. Muddy has a size that will just about everyone, even youths. The Muddy harness is probably to most comfortable harness I have ever worn and also the lightest. I worn Dons last year while we were moving some stands and even though his was a little big for me, I was very impressed on how comfortable and safe I felt hanging 30 ft out of a tree. Muddy Outdoors also has a whole line of treestands, camera arms and accesories. Be sure to check out Muddy Outdoors at www.gomuddy.com.

Wyld Mineral Products

Pretty excited. Abnaki Outdoors just hooked up with Wyld Mineral Products. They are based right up the road from me and from what I've been seeing and reading they are the REAL DEAL. Can't wait to get a lot of the mineral products they offer out and let it Grow The Bone! Check them out they are on FB, give them a like if you haven't already.

Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation

Steve and I were just asked to become associates of the Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation and we couldn't be more honored. This is a great foundation that does wonders for the men and women it benifits. The 2 soliders Steve and I had the oppurtunity to meet, Brad Alexander and Jake Whipkey, are great men with great attitudes. When guys like those 2, that had so much taken from them can go about everyday life with positive attitudes and determination it makes you think that there is no way that I should ever walk around felling sorry for myself or want for more. These soliders gave there time, some gave limbs and some gave all..... for what? For us, so we can go about our everyday lives at peace. The least we can do is give a little bit of our time.

With that being said Abnaki Outdoors is going to be doing a few raffles and a banquet dinner with all the proceeds going to the WWIA. We don't have all the details written in stone but as of right now we will be raffling off a turkey hunt in Kentucky with our good friend Chuck at Kentucky Trophy Bucks and a turkey hunt in Illinois with our freinds at Corn Crib Outfitters! We are working on a few more hunts, hopefully some deer hunts. We are also getting a few things from our sponsors to give away as door prizes.

If this is something you might be interested in attending please email me at don@abnakioutdoors.com so we can get an idea of what type of venue we are going to need. Thanks!

Our last hunt of the season

Tommy and I skipped out of work early today to get one last crack at getting Tommy a bird. Our first set was fruitless so we packed it up and got back to the truck just as it started to rain, While we were waiting out the rain 6 jakes came out in the feild. Well I couldn't talk him in to taking his frustrations out on one of them so when it stopped raing we headed out to the far end of his property. Well that set didnt prove to be any better than our first set. We decided to pack up and do a little last ditch run n gun back to the truck as it was getting late about 7:30. As we were running and crow calling trying to strike up a gobble, we got on to respond. We took of like bats at of hell and tried to make up ground. We got a visual on him probablly 80 yards out but he was going the other way. I made a couple calls and it didn't seem to like that at all, he started to pick up the pace going away. We high tailed it ALL THE WAY across the property and got infront of him but we couldnt get set up in the exact spot that Tommy wanted because the bird kept pace with us and was closing in on us quick. He came to 80 yards and then started going away from us again. awe tried calling to him and he acted like a bird that has heard everything and lived on public land and was hunted hard all season. This bird had very limited pressure and was only hunted twice this whole season so I have no idea what his problem is. He is the most call and decoy shy bird I have ever seen! Well that's all for this turkey season I hope everyone else had a good season. We will be working on our deer DVD then our first turkey DVD. Hope you guys enjoy them.

Last Chance Bird

Went out this morning with Tommy and Corey. Corey was videoing for us and we had one of the best mornings of this SLOW season. We had a bird gobbling on the roost a couple hundred yards away. He never came in but we did have another bird come in. It came in on our left and we thought it was a hen because it waqs yelping it's head off. We made a few calls to it and it blew up into strut. Well this bird tested our patience and hung up out at 150 yards forever until we gave up on it and let it wonder off.
I ended up going up to our Washington county spot to give it on last shot. I had to pull my moultrie cameras and blind so why not do it today and get on last hunt in. Good thing I did, right after getting into the blind I had a hen come in and then saws another hen with a longbeard in tow. Those 2 birds where 200 yards up the ridge from me so I made a few calls and.......nothing didn't see them again until almost 2 hours later when they popped out from behind some trees about 80 yards away. The hen turned out to be a bearded hen that we have been seeing for 3 years now.She made her way down past me but the longbeard stayed 60 yards out and just strutted, spitting and drumming the whole time. I got good footage of him but he kept going behind a tree infront of the blind. Well I couldn't take it anymore so when he finally made his way into range I let him have it and tagged my second bird here in Maryland. This is the first year that I have tagged out in Maryland. That's all for turkey hunting for this year, Abnaki had a pretty good year I think that makes 11 birds down on film this year. Can't wait untill next year.

Corey Staples PA bird

My man Stapes and his dad Rob got it done up in PA. Stapes and his dad have been playing around with videoing for a little while and they got Abnaki a turkey kill on film this season. Stapes went with his dad to some public ground that Rob knew there were some longbeards roosted. Well as soon as the sun started to rise they had a bird gobbling on the roost. A few calls later this bird came on in and put on a show on for the camera and Stapes popped him. Congrats guys on your first kill for Abnaki. Hope you guys get many more!

Opening Day Maryland Bird

My son Hunter finally wanted to get up early and go turkey hunting with me. He picked a good day to go. We heard this bird gobble once on the roost then saw him going the other way about 200 yards away. A half an hour to 45 minutes later Hunter made a few calls on our new Coleman Game Calls glass over slate that Mitch and Curt sent us and this turkey was coming down the hill. Once he saw the decoys it was game over. He came running in and we smoked him. We got pretty good footage of him but he just started to step out of frame when I squeezed off the shot, but Hunter got to see his first turkey hit the ground and we had a great time. He had a 10" beard and 1" spurs.

Trip to Florida

Well my trip to Florida turned out to be more then buisness. On Wednesday night my plane was finally able to depart after a 2hr delay from the storms on the east coast. My condolinences go out to those who may have lost family or Friends in those storms.

I was able to get my buisness taken care of on Thursday and Friday allowing me to hit the lake before I returned back to Maryland. It all started as I hit the lake at 6:00am. The sun was just starting to crest, the fog was rolling off the lake, and you could hear the bass feeding. I knew it wouldn't be long and it wasn't before I had a fish in the boat. Caught 10 and missed at least 10. Over half the fish ranged from 2.5-3.5 pounds. At 9:30 they just turned off. I couldn't complain it was a great morning. My buddy Steve caught 4. He spent most of the time working the boat for me. What a friend. Flew out of Tampa at 6:00 last night returning home around 10:00. Glad to be back home with the family.

Pro Staffer Curt Coleman of Coleman Game Calls with his Kentucky bird. His cameraman didn't have any issues filming this hunt. Just before they got the camera out on his morning hunt a coyote came in and Curt filled his face full of 5 shot. He shot this bird in the evening after calling him in a couple different time. He said the ole Coleman calls made this turkeys ears bleed. Pretty good day for him a yote and a bird.

Here's Pro Staffer Mitch Coleman of Coleman Game Calls and his Kentucky bird. Mitch passed this bird up the morning before because his brother Curt couldn't get on it with the camera but he scored the next morning. But again they had some camera issues and didn't get the kill on film. That's hunting with a camera though.

This was the second bird dropped on the WWIA hunt, this one was smoked by John McDaniels the founder of Wounded Warriors In Action. He was also hunting with the ole good luck charm Steve when he took this bird.

This was the first bird down on the WWIA hunt down in Kentucky. Brad Alexander smoked this one with Steve.

WWIA Hunt

Well all I can say is we had a GREAT TIME. The birds were pretty henned up and the weather wasn't the greatest but we still had some success. John (the founder or WWIA) is a 1st class man and really knows how to take care of these Purple Heart recipients, was a pleasure meeting John,Brad and Jake, and sharing camp with them and Abnaki team members Don,Mitch & Curt. Can't wait until next years trip.

Opening day tomorrow

Tommy, the kids an I went up to our turkey lease, squared up with the landowner and set a blind up for tomorrow. The landowner finally let us set a blind up right where we have wanted to be the last 3 years. I was going to go and bowhunt but I just got word that Hunter is off school for spring break so he wants to go with me tomorrow. I think I'm going to leave the bow at the house and take my shotgun. I want to have the added advantage of a shotgun for Hunter's first time out turkey hunting. Wish us luck.

Turkey season opens Monday

Bossman has given me the morning off so hopefully I can find someone to video with but if not I will be sitting in a blind with a camera and a bow. Would love to get out and Chase them with a gun but if I can't find a partner its gonna be sitting in a blind. To much of a pain to self film running and gunning.

Good day to get some work done.

We are gonna spend some time with our families this morning then it is off to work on some food plots and film some more cut aways for this years dvd.  We also have to get our turkey guns sighted in and ready for April 18th.  If we have time after all of that we would like to get to do a little shed hunting.  It will a packed full afternoon but we have a lot of work to do so it will all be worth it.
